How to Slow Ageing and also Preparing for a Half Marathon

February 28, 2018 - Mike Dilke

This week the RELAXBACK UK show talks to Professor Valter Longo about his book that tells us a way to slow ageing. Also a couple of tips for those who are planning to run a half or whole marathon.

Most of us want to live to a ripe old age for sure. However we want to stay healthy in mind and body as well and Professor Valter Longo's research can help us do that. He is Director of the Longevity Institute in the School of Gerontology at the University of Southern California and has written a book called The Longevity Diet. The book explains that specific diets can activate stem cells and promote regeneration in multiple organs. Thus will reduce the chances of developing diseases like diabetes, heart disease, cancer and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimers.

One part of this is the useful part that fasting can play in promoting good health. Professor Longo has developed a fasting-mimicking diet so it is possible to get the benefits without feeling so hungry.

I was lucky enough to speak with Professor Longo about his work and his book and  you can hear our chat here.

On Sunday March 4th I will be running the Big Half - this is a half marathon in London. I am looking forward to it and will be raising money for the BackCare Charity which helps those who suffer the agony of back and neck pain.

I have listed some tips for runners on the RELAXBACK UK show and I hope to be able to follow my own advice! I have run the full London Marathon but that was five years ago so it will be a bit of a struggle.

If you would like to sponsor me rasing money for the BackCare Charity you can do so by following this link.
