From Surgeon’s Slab to Ironman in 18 Weeks, Lugging 5 Tons of Fruit & Veg and Heated Bra Straps

February 14, 2017 - Mike Dilke

Covered a lot of topics in this weeks podcast on UK Health Radio.

George Mahood went from having back pain to the surgeon's slab and a day or two after the operation decided he was going to complete an ironman triathlon. That is a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and a 26.22 mile run straight after one another. The extraordinary thing is that he managed it and he talks about why, how and what he does after it for kicks! He has written a book about the journey called Operation Ironman and it is an inspirational read. The interview was done on skype and there is the odd word missed but it is such a great story you probably won't even notice.

You think that sounds exhausting then try lugging 5 tons of fruit and veg around before you start a days work for 30 years. That is the reality for Chris Chandler of Grove Fruits who is still fit and healthy and with a smile.

Also do you have any odd things that help you with overcoming your back ache or do you want something but just can't find it? If we swap some ideas you might come across something that makes your life easier or maybe you will help a fellow sufferer. Someone suggested to me that they needed a heated bra strap but what might make your life more comfortable? Let us know via the comments section below.

If you have any questions or comments for George or Chris then ask them here.
